About Light & Its Creators

Who We Are

Light was founded by young Christian writers Katherine and Savanna to provide a place for young writers to write without persecushion, curate their talents, and get involved in a safe community. Yet, they found few platforms that offered such a place for teens who differ from the mainstream. So, they figured, who would be better to create a site for teens than teens?

Abstract Lights

What We Offer

Writers can share their work with eager readers as well as read others' writing. In member-run Groups, they can get together over their favorite things; a members page allows Lighters to search for people they know and start following people, as well as prompts to help writers craft their writing, and Writer Highlights, where we interview a writer, let them give some advice to newcomers and design their own light-bulb (prompt).

Our Mission

"Be a light in the darkness, make a postive change, and encourage others!"

We help young writers curate their creative talents through prompts, friendly competition, and community. We believe that they can make a positive change through their writing. So, we are dedicated to providing inspiration, encouragement, and a place for young writers all over the world to grow.

OUR TEAM
Light was founded in 2020 by Katherine and Savanna, two bright young Christian teen writers and friends, who you can read about below. Our team has grown from our first two Co-Founders/Admins into a small team of young writers and authors. Together, they write and post, edit and update, and really do the best they can to keep Light in shape.

Savanna Croft

Co-Founder & Admin

Savanna Croft is one of the creators of Writelight. When she isn't admiring rhyme poetry (she'll be the first one to admit she isn't that good at it), you'll find her scribbling on a notebook, reading an incredibly thick book, drawing or creating art, dancing in public, or working on one of her many Works-In-Progress when she isn't spending time with her family. Her favorite writing is fantasy and historical fiction. She is the 14-year-old homeschooled pastor's kid and big sister to four siblings: Samuel; Gracie; Gideon; and Piper!

I'm Savanna! It's nice to meet you. Katherine, who you can read about below, proposed the idea to create Writelight as a place where writers could feel safe and write about their beliefs without being attacked, after we had received persecution at another writing platform. We also wanted to be a place where differences and diversity of thought abound. We do not have control over what people believe, but we can control how they treat others and how they are treated. I believe we have created that place!

I have been on multiple missions trips, including Uganda, Kenya, and Guatemala. Habakkuk 3:17-18! If you would like to know more about me, you can find my writing on my blog, Savanna's Scribbles. I'm a growing writer, art-teest (ha! See what I did there?), singer, follower of Jesus, and person--but aren't we all?

Katherine Joy

Co-Founder & Admin

Katherine Joy is one of the creators of Light. Finding pleasure in reading good, classic fiction, on a rainy day she will most likely be found curled up on her bed, sipping tea and savoring chocolate as she loses herself between the pages of Pride & Prejudice. There are so many things that she dreams of doing, places she dreams of going to, and projects she hopes to finish one day. Being one of those creative types, she will be the first to admit that she procrastinates...a lot, but by God’s grace, she’s being refined day by day. A book dragon, popcorn enthusiast, flowerchild, lover of all things beautiful & vintage, and an artist at heart, Katherine is also an introvert and probably wouldn’t go up to you and introduce herself...but she welcomes you to Light now—Hi! So glad you're here!

Thomas Crawford

Advisor & Admin

i don't need it.... i definitely don't need it.jpeg

Thomas Crawford attempts to raise awareness of neglected llamas, and occasionally will do something fruitful. He assists Katherine and Savanna in running Writelight. Cajun by blood (born in Louisiana), a military kid by God's choice, a writer by his own, and a citizen of heaven by the grace of God, he is a huge fan of "The Great Outdoors," even though there aren't many mountains to explore in Florida 😉. He enjoys all genres of writing, but his favourites are poetry and spoken word, dystopian / bold-living fiction, or historical nonfiction.

Ello! It's nice to meet you. What will it be? Coffee? Tea? Water? The best introductions occur at coffee shops, in my opinion :D. I am so excited that I am able to be a part of Writelight, and I'm so excited that you found us! If there were one place I could be at this moment, it would be laying on a soft couch during Christmas wrapped inside a snugly blanket with a cup of hot cocoa or thick-sliced apple pie in my hand - just saying.

I am from a family of six, and I'm obssessed with the word shalom, Rustic Farmhouses, The Lord of the Rings (duh), the TV seriesThe Chosen , It's a Wonderful Life (best Christmas movie of ALL TIME), and I philospophize way too deeply on random thoughts that fizzle from thin air and into my brain the moment I'm about to fall asleep. That's the worstI hate kale with an immeasurable loathing, but I love, love, LOVE Jesus!! (I kinda wish that God had added somewhere in Genesis chapter 1 that he saw kale and "saw that it was veryveryvery bad.") I'm a budding photographer, writer (obviously), artist, singer, and lover of Jesus!

  Alumni & Admin

Emi is an eighteen-year-old Christian writer who is now graduated from Light and is happy to support such an amazing site. She has been writing for most of her life, and hopes to someday publish a book, though her perfectionism tends to be a hindrance to this goal. : ) Besides writing, Emi enjoys spending time outside enjoying or sketching God's majestic creation (usually in her garden), baking delicious treats for her family, and playing air soft with friends.

Greetings, and welcome to Light! I hope you can find encouragement and support here on a site where writers of all skills are welcome to craft their work! I'm always happy to help younger writers and support the talents that God gave us all!

I hail from the bonny state of Pennsylvania, and I love the farmland, woods, and rolling hills of my area. Some of my favorite books are The Lord of the Rings (I know, so original), The Chronicles of Narnia, The Chronicles of Prydain, The Wingfeather Saga, and the Out of Time trilogy. Obviously, I adore fantasy, but I'll also read sci-fi and historical fiction. I love to write all of these genres as well! I also have a heart for missions—I believe it is so important to spread the truth of Jesus and God's saving grace to the world! I am hoping to someday use my writing skills to further this mission! My favorite Bible verse is Joshua 1:9.

A few Bible verses we love

"Live as children of light (for the fruit of the light consists in all goodness, righteousness and truth) and find out what pleases the Lord. Have nothing to do with the fruitless deeds of darkness, but rather expose them. It is shameful even to mention what the disobedient do in secret. But everything exposed by the light becomes visible—and everything that is illuminated becomes a light."

- Ephesians 5:8-14

"The people living in darkness have seen a great light; on those living in the land of the shadow of death a light has dawned." - Matthew 4:16

Then Jesus said, "I am the Light of the world." - John 9:5

Do not gloat over me, my enemy! Though I have fallen, I will rise. Though I sit in darkness, the LORD will be my light. -Micah 7:8

This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but people loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil. Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that their deeds will be exposed.  But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what they have done has been done in the sight of God.

- John 3:19-21

You, LORD, keep my lamp burning; my God turns my darkness into light.

- Psalm 18:28

The LORD is my light and my salvation— whom shall I fear? The LORD is the stronghold of my life— of whom shall I be afraid? - Psalm 27:1
