Thank you for your interest in joining Writelight! As young writers and authors, we know the feeling of not knowing where to begin. You probably have some questions. That’s why we made this FAQ page. And don’t hesitate to contact us with any other queries! We're here for you!
How do I start Light-ing (writing)?
To sign up and join Writelight, simply go to the Login tab and then click "Signup." Then, enter your information. One of our Torch-Lighters will then approve you and we'll reach out to you directly via email to let you know you've been approved. Once you have been approved, you have full access to our site. You can post your stories, poems, and other works; join private or public groups to connect with other Light-ers; and join us for our Events. To start publishing, head to the Light-er Hub, and click or tap "new" at the top right corner of the page! We can't wait to see what you create!
Can I get posts removed from the site?
Light is a global community of young Christian writers, so if your post/piece of writing goes against the Code of Conduct it can be. Don't worry, it's hard to break to Code! However, you are responsible for all actions, including posting pieces and comments, and joining groups, under your account. To make sure that the Writelight writing community stays safe and inclusive for all members, we have a three-strike system in place: strike one against our Code Of Conduct, your piece and/or comment is removed; strike two, your account is suspended for two days; and strike three you will be removed from the site. For all strikes, you will be notified via email. Don't worry -- as long as you abide by the Code of Conduct, you will be fine! Just have fun and remember to honor God in everything!
Who can see my profile?
Any logged in member can see your profile. If you are uncomfortable with this, give only as much info as you feel safe. Please don't share any super-personal information. You can edit your profile, info, etc. by going to "Profile" and scrolling to the different options. Your profile is different than your account, which contains your name and email. Your account is visible only to you and the Torch-Lighters
How do I connect with other members?
To find fellow light-ers, go to the "Fellow Light-ers," page! There you will see other members of the site! You can access their writing by clicking on their profile name, and scrolling down to and clicking on their Forum Posts page! We also have Lighter-Groups where you can connect with other Light-ers based on your interests.
How do I control notifications?
Notifications are enabled by default. To clear and view them, click on the notification bell in the top right corner of the homepage. Then, click on the dropdown arrow next to your profile picture in the top right corner. When your profile comes up, scroll to the bottom and click on "settings" at the bottom left. This will bring up all the "notification settings." You choose which things you want to be notified for or not. A check mark "✔" means you will get notified. A minus sign " - " means you will no longer get that notification.
How can I help?
First of all, we don't really advertise, so word of mouth is how this amazing little project of ours can grow! Go ahead, tell your friends, your parents, family, co-op members-- whoever! We love new Light-ers! You can also help by posting your amazing writing, checking in with other Light-ers, joining and creating groups, and keeping up with the Torch-Lighters!
What happens when I turn 18?
When you turn 18 (or the legal adult age in your country), if you would like to stay with us (which we would love for you to do!), you will join the Light Alumni Network. Shoot us an email and we'll get you situated with the nifty and thrifty Alumni badge! With this badge, you'll be able to guide other young writers in their writing, give tips, and create prompts. For more information on the Alumni program, contact us.
What are your programs?
We're developing new programs for our Light-ers to participate in and enjoy, including competitions, writing camps, complete with specialized badges, and when they are implemented in our site we will send out an email to all Light-ers and post it in the forum, so be sure to be on the look out! Currently, we have Writer Highlights, Writer's Pick, Light-er Competitions, and Light-er Camps!
