Ordinary Beauty

All around us, there are beautiful things. Whether it be a flower or tree, or maybe the smile of a grandpa, we see beauty. Sometimes we miss out on it- in this fast-paced world, the old saying “Stop and smell the roses,” is overlooked. Is that such a good thing?

Light Bulb: Today, dear light-ers, we want you to stop and smell the roses. Choose something that you see every day- it may be your sister’s hair, or a busy street, or the cookie shop- and show us how it is beautiful. Describe it to us in a way that makes us feel like we’re looking at this object. We want to taste, see, smell, hear, and feel this object and understand the beauty of it.

Specifics: The piece that you write must be about a thing you see on a day-to-day basis and you must use at least 2 of the 5 senses to describe it. We also ask that you include the name of this prompt in the title, or at least the word “Beauty.” The entry for this prompt could be in poetry form, but if you have an idea that involves a different form of writing, go for it!

Please, light the way to beauty!

-A Girl Named Savanna
