Secret Light-ers 2021!

Hello, Light-ers!

For those of you who don't remember, or who weren't here last year, December is the month of our now-annual Secret Light-ers event! Every year in the month of December, Light-ers will sign up for our event, and will be randomly given a Light-er that will participate in their Christmas festivities! Christmas is a time of bringing people together, of hope and of laughter. This Christmas, one of your online friends will be able to laugh with you!

Lightbulb: Start writing, and add your Light-er into a story about Christmas! Last year we had some amazing entries: Christmas Karaoke, A surprise visit involving caroling and Scrooge, Christmas in the Shire, a music box that sang about a Light-er, and a time-traveling adventure back to Jesus' birth! Be creative and original! Make sure when you write your story to make your assigned Light-er a main character and to make the story involve Christmas.

Specifics:

• You can sign up for Secret Light-ers by commenting on the bottom of this post your name. You will not be able to participate if you do not sign up by Saturday, December 18th (dates may be changed at any time). When you sign up, we will ask you a few Christmas-themed questions. Be mindful that by signing up, you agree to both write a story about another Light-er and to be in a story written by another Light-er.

• We will assign you a randomly selected Light-er for you to include as a main character in your story; we will tell you their name and the answers to their questions that you might want to add in your story, if applicable. Remember to follow the Code of Conduct when writing about your Light-er, not to disclose any confidential information, and to be mindful of the Golden Rule: Only write about others as you would have them write about you =).

• Post your story between the 27th and the 31st (dates may be changed at any time), making sure to message the link and the title to your piece to the Torch-Lighters so we can keep track of it and send it to your assigned Light-er.

• Find out as much information about your Light-er as possible, while keeping in mind this is supposed to be a Secret Light-er Event. Be discreet! We want this to be a total surprise. This is not just a story for you, it is a gift for your Light-er! Make sure to add little touches about your character that make them feel like a real person: their personality, their favorite foods, hobbies, or songs, favorite Christmas traditions, etc. With all of our Light-ers living so far apart, only communicating via email, chat, Zoom, or phone, this may be the only present you get to give them!
