Secret Lighters 2023

Every year in the month of December, lighters can sign up for this super fun event in which they will be randomly given a lighter for whom they will write a story! This holiday season, get into the giving spirit with Secret Lighters! :D

Lightbulb: Go on, start writing, and add your lighter into a story about Christmas! Last year we had some amazing entries: The Mysterious Gift (For Secret Lighters), 'Twas The Day Before Christmas for my Secret Lighter, @ǟ ɢɨʀʟ ռǟʍɛɖ ֆǟʋǟռռǟ!, "Kate’s Christmas Dilemma" for my Secret Lighter, @Katherine, and Merry Christmas @Anne Shirley!!!, just to name a few! Take a look at these, and other past stories to gain inspiration, but when you write your own, be creative and original! Make sure when you write your story to make your assigned lighter a main character and to make the story involve Christmas--those are the two things that your story should be about, after all!

Specifics:

• You can sign up for Secret Lighters by commenting your name on the bottom of this post. You will not be able to participate if you do not sign up by Saturday, December 18th. When you sign up, we will ask you a few Christmas-themed questions. Be mindful that by signing up, you agree to both write a story about another lighter and to be in a story written by another lighter.

• We will assign you a randomly selected lighter for you to include as a main character in your story; we will tell you their name and the answers to their questions that you might want to add in your story to make it more personal and special. Remember to follow the Code of Conduct when writing about your Light-er, not to disclose any confidential information, and to be mindful of the Golden Rule: Only write about others as you would have them write about you =).

• Post your story between the 23th and the 31st, making sure to message the link and the title of your piece to either Savanna, Katherine, or Thomas so that we can keep track of it and send it to your assigned lighter.

• Find out as much information about your Light-er as possible (without being creepy), while keeping in mind this is supposed to be a Secret Lighter Event. Be discreet! We want this to be a total surprise. This is not just a story for you, it is a gift for your lighter! Make sure to add little touches about your lighter that make them feel like the real person: their personality, their favorite foods, hobbies, or songs, favorite Christmas traditions, etc. With all of our lighters living so far apart, only communicating via email, chat, or phone, this may be the only present you get to give them, so make it fun, encouraging, and special!
